Installation of Keystone Century Wall
Installation is easy with the unit shape’s tail element which makes the handling easier. In general installation is done in the following six steps:
-
Prepare the base leveling pad. All the debris and surface vegetation should be removed and must not be used as backfill. The leveling pad should be prepared with six inches (150mm) of well compacted granular filling of pad base. An step up of 8 inches (200mm) should be taken for changes in elevation.pea gravel and sand should not be used for leveling of the pad.
-
Install the base course: End to end placement of first course of keystone century units should be done in a random arrangement where the front corners are touching. Each unit should be level side to side and also front to back. Embedment of base course should not be less than 1" for every course.
-
Insert the fiberglass pins: The keystone century wall units are given desired setback position by placing shouldered fiberglass pins into the appropriate holes. Pins should be placed in the rearmost holes for an 8.8 degree setback for each course. An optional pin hole is provided in larger units for ensuring that the small units do not slip between pins which are above to it.
-
Install core fill & compaction: After the installation of the pins, 1/2-inch 3/4-inch (10-20mm) crushed stone drainage fill should be provided behind the units to a minimum distance of one foot (300mm) behind the tail. Fill all open spaces between units and open cavities/cores with the same drainage material. Backfill soil should be placed in maximum eight inch (200mm) layers and compact to 95% Standard Proctor with compaction equipment appropriate for the job. Heavy (rideon) compaction equipment within three feet (1m) of back of wall should not be run and also use of pea gravel or sand for drainage fill should be avoided.
-
Install additional courses: The next course of keystone century wall units should be placed over the fiberglass pins which fit to the long receiving channel recess in the other units above to it. Stack bonding should be avoided while placing units randomly.
-
Capping the wall: The top of the wall should be clean and thus should be prepared for the application of the constructional adhesive for bonding purpose. The keystone century capping unit should be placed which may be flush or overhanging according to the needs.
